Major Roadways

Adirondacks/North Country
Clinton, Essex, Franklin, Hamilton and Warren Counties including the cities of Plattsburgh and Glens Falls and the villages of Lake George, Lake Placid and Speculator.

The Adirondack Northway (I-87) is the primary route through the Adirondacks/North Country and runs directly through the area, connecting Montreal and New York City. Other main roads include U.S. Route 9 in Saratoga, Warren and Essex Counties and U.S. Route 4 from Saratoga County east to Rutland, VT. New York Route 32 is a north-south route through Warren and Saratoga Counties to the Capital Region. Main east-west routes include New York Routes 28, 29, 30 and 149.


Capital Region
Albany, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie, Washington Counties including the cities of Albany, Saratoga Springs, Schenectady and Troy and the towns of Bethlehem, Colonie, Guilderland, Greenwich, Mechanicville and Schoharie.

The Capital Region is the crossroads of all transportation systems serving the northeastern U.S. The New York State Thruway and New York State Adirondack Northway run throughout the Capital Region, as do Routes 20, 9, 7 and Interstate 88. This comprehensive network of state highways crosses the region and gives access to various local and regional markets.


Hudson Valley
Columbia, Dutchess, Greene, Orange and Ulster Counties including the cities of Hudson, Kingston, Newburgh and Poughkeepsie and the town of New Paltz.

The Hudson Valley is interconnected by the New York State Thruway, with direct links throughout Greene, Ulster and Dutchess Counties as well as New York Routes 9, 18 and 20. Travel by car to New York City is approximately 90 minutes, and north to the Capital Region is less than an hour. From Greene County, the Berkshire Spur going to the Massachusetts Turnpike (I-90) is 11 miles away, and Boston is within three hours.


Mohawk Valley
Herkimer, Fulton and Montgomery Counties including the cities of Amsterdam, Gloversville, Herkimer, Johnstown and Little Falls.

The New York State Thruway runs through the Mohawk Valley and provides direct linkage to all major population areas in the Northeast. In Fulton County, New York Routes 30, 30A, 10 and 29 connect to interstate highways. Montgomery County is accessible by the Thruway from exits 27-29 and by Routes 5 and 5S. In addition, Routes 10, 30 and 30A, heading south from the Adirondack State Park and Route 67 from Saratoga are major roadways. Herkimer County is also accessible via several Thruway exits.
