Adirondacks/North Country

Economic development in this region ranges from long-term strategic plans for positioning the North Country for success to the marketing of Plattsburgh International Airport. Recent initiatives include the acquisition of the Wyeth operations in Rouses Point by Akrimax Pharmaceuticals, the attraction and start-up of Nova Bus and the organization of the Adirondack On Track Partnership, which is working toward the reconstruction and preservation of the Adirondack Railroad infrastructure. Finance, insurance, manufacturing, services and tourism are the major employers in the region. In the greater Glens Falls area alone, more than 63,000 people are employed in approximately 65 different industries, including furniture, medical devices, printing, textiles, technology, and pulp and paper equipment.
Capital Region
Albany, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie, Washington Counties including the cities of Albany, Saratoga Springs, Schenectady and Troy and the towns of Bethlehem, Colonie, Guilderland, Greenwich, Mechanicville and Schoharie.
Located in Malta, in Southern Saratoga County, the Luther Forest Technology Campus is the future home of GlobalFoundries’ chip fab plant. With more than 60 percent of the 1,350 acre campus representing “green space,” Luther Forest has been environmentally pre-approved and designed specifically for nanotechnology manufacturing, research and development. Elsewhere, the cities of Albany, Saratoga Springs, Schenectady and Troy and their surroundings communities are home to some of the best resources in the country and are recognized nationally for their high-quality business climate. The Rensselaer County Chamber's Economic Development Partnership expands and develops new business for the region by providing relevant information, contacts and assistance through marketing opportunities to regional, national and international businesses.
Hudson Valley
Columbia, Dutchess, Greene, Orange and Ulster Counties including the cities of Hudson, Kingston, Newburgh and Poughkeepsie and the town of New Paltz.
Each of the counties in the Hudson Valley is committed to economic development and expanded opportunities for business. For example, the Columbia Hudson Partnership strengthens the county tax base through economic development and job creation, assisting businesses of all sizes with training and financial assistance. Dutchess County supports economic enterprise with a wealth of financial, technical, education, and cultural resources. Greene County Planning and Economic Development assists Greene County businesses with low-interest loans, grants and financial incentives, such as its Empire Zone program, site selection and workforce training.
Mohawk Valley
Herkimer, Fulton and Montgomery Counties including the cities of Amsterdam, Gloversville, Herkimer, Johnstown and Little Falls.
In Montgomery County, Beech-Nut Nutrition Corporation broke ground on its new production facility and corporate headquarters within the Florida Business Park on schedule in mid-May 2008. This $124 million project involves the construction of a new 635,000-square-foot production facility and corporate offices, with an anticipated opening in April 2010. This project will lead to the creation of 136 full-time positions and the retention of 356 full time positions. The Herkimer County Industrial Development Agency (HCIDA) is Herkimer County's lead agent for economic development services in Herkimer County, marketing the county and its available industrial sites and facilities to the business community. The Fulton County Economic Development Corporation (FCEDC) helps companies expand, relocate or start their business, with industrial sites, project financing and Empire Zone incentives available.
