Winter

Adirondacks/North Country
Clinton, Essex, Franklin, Hamilton and Warren Counties including the cities of Plattsburgh and Glens Falls and the villages of Lake George, Lake Placid and Speculator.

Take time to enjoy some of the best skiing and riding the east has to offer with great snow, spectacular views and fun ski activities. The Adirondacks/North Country offer resort skiing with the greatest vertical drop in the east, cross country ski centers of Olympic caliber and back country adventures in New York’s highest peaks. Snowmobilers can experience the Adirondack Coast full throttle –– with thousands of miles of snowmobile trails, there is no better way to explore winter’s white landscape than on a sled. Race across frozen Lake Champlain and enjoy a huge network of groomed trails in the Adirondacks.

Capital Region
Albany, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie, Washington Counties including the cities of Albany, Saratoga Springs, Schenectady and Troy and the towns of Bethlehem, Colonie, Guilderland, Greenwich, Mechanicville and Schoharie.

Enjoy the magic of skiing in the Capital Region. There are plenty of ski resorts in and around the region, offering both family-friendly and all-inclusive ski and snowboarding resorts. Whether you’re a beginner or an expert, you will definitely enjoy the powdery slopes in the area. As the holidays approach, the elegant Victorian influence of Saratoga is front and center. The streets are decorated in holiday finery, shops are dressed in lush greenery, and there is a glow of twinkling lights during the annual Saratoga Victorian Streetwalk. First Night in Saratoga is a not-to-be-missed event, with family exhibits and performances, great Saratoga dining, revelry and fireworks! Plus, all winter long, the many trails in Saratoga Spa State Park are open for cross-country skiing or snowshoeing.

Hudson Valley
Columbia, Dutchess, Greene, Orange and Ulster Counties including the cities of Hudson, Kingston, Newburgh and Poughkeepsie and the town of New Paltz.

Greene County in the great Northern Catskills is one of the premier winter destinations on the East Coast. Hunter and Windham mountains offer some of the finest skiing and snowboarding in the Northeast, and even where there's rain or warmer weather to the south, Greene County’s high peaks often bring snow or colder weather to the mountaintop. If you want more than skiing and snowboarding, there’s snowtubing, ice skating, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, ice fishing and one of the best locations in the U.S. for ice climbing. Over in Columbia County, each holiday season carolers dressed in Victorian costumes sing songs, musical ensembles and dancers perform in shops, and the aroma of roasting chestnuts fills the air during the Winter Walk on Warren Street, Hudson’s main thoroughfare. Holiday revelers ride in carriages drawn by teams of horses up and down Warren Street, a scene evocative of days gone by, on the evening of the first Saturday of December.

Mohawk Valley
Herkimer, Fulton and Montgomery Counties including the cities of Amsterdam, Gloversville, Herkimer, Johnstown and Little Falls.

Fulton County has its own downhill ski facility, Royal Mountain, that features snowmaking and speedy chair lift lines. Lapland Lake Ski and Vacation Center at Benson, a cross-country ski facility, is one of the best in the country. There are additional cross-country ski opportunities, starting with the miles and miles of groomed snowmobile trails. The winter season in Montgomery County is a time of cross-country skiing, ice skating, sledding, snowmobiling and holiday activities, offering more than 65 miles of New York State corridor snowmobile trails maintained and groomed December 15-March 1. Cross country skiing, downhill skiing, snowmobiling, snowboarding and snowshoeing are also a part of winter in Herkimer County. There are literally hundreds of miles of groomed and maintained snowmobile trails as well as miles of both groomed and make-your-own trails for cross country skiing.
