Area Ranks in Top 20 for Competitiveness
Backed by strong entrepreneurial activity, a highly-educated workforce, low crime rates and other factors, Tech Valley placed 18th in the nation in the Beacon Hill Institute's latest Metro Area Competitiveness Report.
The Institute defines competitiveness as “the policies and conditions that ensure and sustain a high level of per capita income and its continued growth.”
The organization assigns 39 variables to eight categories – government and fiscal policy, security, infrastructure, human resources, technology, business incubation, openness and environmental policy – and combines these eight measures into a single “competitiveness index.”
With top national rankings for entrepreneurial activity and number of new publicly traded companies, Tech Valley placed 16th for "Business Incubation."
Robust investments in research and development, a significant group of scientists and engineers in the workforce and a large population science and engineering graduate students led the region to 18th in “Technology.”
Tech Valley placed fourth in “Human Resources” thanks to a large population of high school graduates and low unemployment rate.
The region – backed by its low crime rates – ranked sixth for “Institutions and Security.”
Tech Valley also placed 11th for “Environmental Policy.”
