Region Employment Outlook is Strong
The two major metro areas of Tech Valley, Albany-Schenectady-Troy and Poughkeepsie-Newburgh-Middletown are expected to hire at a strong pace during the second quarter of 2010, according to the Manpower Employment Outlook Survey.
The Albany-Schenectady-Troy area employment outlook is the fourth best in the nation. From April to June, 25% of the companies interviewed plan to hire more employees, while just 8% expect to reduce their payrolls. Another 63% expect to maintain their current staff levels and 4% are not certain of their hiring plans. This yields a Net Employment Outlook of 17%.
The Net Employment Outlook is derived by taking the percentage of employers anticipating an increase in hiring activity and subtracting from this the percentage of employers expecting a decrease in hiring activity.
From April to June in Poughkeepsie-Newburgh-Middletown, 15% of the companies interviewed plan to hire more employees, while only 3% expect to reduce their payrolls. Another 77% expect to maintain their current staff levels and 5% are not certain of their hiring plans. This yields a Net Employment Outlook of 12%.
