Summit to Feature Bioethics Expert
An expert in the field of bioethics will serve as a featured speaker at the sixth annual Summit in Tech Valley, scheduled for April 26 at The Desmond Hotel & Conference Center in Colonie, New York.
Dr. Glenn McGee currently serves as director of the Alden March Bioethics Institute, New York’s only comprehensive, university-based bioethics research and education organization. McGee also holds the John A. Balint Endowed Chair in Medical Ethics, and is a professor of medicine, law and philosophy at Albany Medical College, Albany Law School and the University at Albany.
His presentation, which will be entitled “Why Bioethics Makes The Difference Between The Good Science and The Best Science,” will focus on the need to address bioethical issues and the crucial role they play in communicating and building community awareness and respect for science leadership.
“The addition of bioethics expert Dr. Glenn McGee to the lineup for this year’s Summit in Tech Valley will provide attendees with a real sense of the growing concern for research accountability in the scientific world,” said Chamber Senior Vice President Ann Wendth, who is the lead organizer of the Summit. “Dr. McGee is a strong proponent of the scientific community taking the appropriate steps to ensure the integrity of its scientists, and this passion and determination will undoubtedly shine through during his presentation at the sixth annual Summit.”
The Summit in Tech Valley will take place at an outstanding facility, feature a one-day program, and bring back a very popular speaker – Union College graduate and manager partner of Ruxton Ventures LLC Mark Walsh – to once again serve as the master of ceremonies during the sixth-annual event this year.
The region’s premier high-tech gathering draws hundreds of leaders in the technology, business, government and academic communities, who listen to presentations and take part in interactive discussions concerning the region’s high-tech future.
The theme of the 2006 Summit is “Fast Forward,” reflecting the goal of providing attendees the sense of Tech Valley’s impact in the world’s technology community and preparing technology executives and companies for the challenges ahead.
A world-class lineup of speakers – including leading technology executive and Chairman of the Board of Berkshire Bank Lawrence A. Bossidy, cyber security expert and President and CEO of R & H Consulting LLC Howard Schmidt, and energy expert and President and CEO of National Grid USA Michael E. Jesanis – is being assembled to discuss the innovative technologies of the future and engage attendees in a dialogue that will help them move forward at a rapid pace.
The event also features a $100,000 Business Plan Competition, a video presentation of the Tech Valley Innovative Educator Awards and presentation of The MIKE, an award which recognizes individuals and organizations that have made extraordinary contributions to the development of the region’s high-tech sector. In addition, breakout sessions on key topics relevant to the technology community will be held.
Berkshire Bank, through its Greater Berkshire Foundation, will serve as the major sponsor of the sixth annual Summit in Tech Valley. Sponsors include FA Technology Ventures, National Grid, Times Union, Time Warner Cable and WNYT/NewsChannel 13. Chamber of Commerce sponsors include Bethlehem, Colonie, Orange County, Plattsburgh-North Country, Rensselaer County and Schenectady County.
