SUNY Admits Record Number of Students
State University of New York (SUNY) campuses welcomed a record 414,171 students for the fall semester of 2005. School officials also say the academic credentials of incoming students continue to rise.
More than 50% of SUNY students had SAT scores of 1200 or better and grade-point averages of 91.5 or better. SUNY says that is comparable to other state-run campuses in California, Michigan, Texas and North Carolina.
SUNY Chancellor John Ryan, a former acting president of UAlbany, told The Business Review that the enrollment figures show that the system "continues to fulfill its mission by providing access to a high-quality education for hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers."
