Pratt & Whitney to Expand Operations
Pratt & Whitney – one of the largest aerospace engine manufacturers in the world – signed a joint venture agreement with Chromalloy Gas Turbine to expand its current operations and bring 80 high-paying jobs to the region. Another 50 jobs could be created with future growth of the deal.
The $60 million cost of the project will be offset with an estimated $10 million in incentives from the state’s Empire Zone program and the Town of Wallkill’s Industrial Development Agency.
The 86,000-square-foot facility is expected be completed by the end of the year.
The venture between Pratt and Chromalloy – which goes by the name Advanced Coating Technologies – applies ceramic coatings to aircraft turbines. The specialized coatings keep the metal from melting in the near-3,000-degree heat of a jet engine. ACT currently employs 35 workers.
“These are the type of corporations that we’ve been looking for,” Orange County Executive Edward Diana told the Times Herald-Record. “We think this is a great beginning.”
