You have a choice in selecting your gas and electric providers, although water service is usually predetermined and managed by your local municipality.
The three major providers in Tech Valley are
Central Hudson Gas & Electric,
National Grid and
New York State Electric & Gas. Additionally, several communities – including Plattsburgh, Lake Placid, Rouses Point, Tupper Lake and Green Island – are served by municipal electric companies offering some of the cheapest electricity rates in the country.
The electrical supply in the United States is 110/120 volts AC with a frequency of 60 hertz (cycles). Adapters are available to convert foreign electrical devices, but the power supply may be insufficient to run large appliances. Smaller appliances are generally less expensive to replace than to convert.
