Area community colleges offer extensive associate degrees and certificate programs, feature state-of-the-art technologies, modern equipment and excellent facilities. Because community colleges are quite affordable, many students attend a two-year community college and then transfer to a four-year school, typically with enough credits to obtain a bachelor’s degree after two more years of study.
 
Adirondacks/North Country
Clinton, Essex, Franklin, Hamilton and Warren Counties including the cities of Plattsburgh and Glens Falls and the villages of Lake George, Lake Placid and Speculator.
 
In the Adirondacks and North Country, higher learning definitely has its place. Clinton County alone boasts three outstanding centers of higher learning, the largest being the State University of New York at Plattsburgh, with its modern downtown campus offering 5,300 students more than 65 academic majors. Clinton Community College and North Country Community College, meanwhile, offer students a two-year course of study. In Warren County, Adirondack Community College in Queensbury has the best record of transfer success of any SUNY community college, according to a recent survey.

Capital Region
Albany, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie, Washington Counties including the cities of Albany, Saratoga Springs, Schenectady and Troy and the towns of Bethlehem, Colonie, Guilderland, Greenwich, Mechanicville and Schoharie.
 
The Capital Region is not only the seat of state government, it’s also the academic hub of Tech Valley. From the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering of the University at Albany to the State University of New York at Cobleskill, this area has more than 20 institutions of higher learning. Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Siena College, Union College and The College of Saint Rose are among its numerous colleges and universities, along with several nursing and medical schools, liberal arts schools and community colleges. Academia goes hand in hand with the Capital Region, and graduates from its institutions make a difference in Tech Valley and beyond.

Hudson Valley
Columbia, Dutchess, Greene, Orange and Ulster Counties including the cities of Hudson, Kingston, Newburgh and Poughkeepsie and the town of New Paltz.
 
The Hudson Valley is home to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, preparing tomorrow’s soldiers for battle in the 21st century. Marist College, Vassar College, Mount Saint Mary College and the State University of New York at New Paltz provide a liberal arts education to students from places far and wide, while several community colleges offer a two-year program for students as they enter the workforce or work toward baccalaureate degrees. Whatever your goals, opportunities for higher education are plentiful in the Hudson Valley.

Mohawk Valley
Herkimer, Fulton and Montgomery Counties including the cities of Amsterdam, Gloversville, Herkimer, Johnstown and Little Falls.
 
The Mohawk Valley includes three community colleges that prepare students for careers or pursuit of four-year degrees. Fulton-Montgomery Community College in Johnstown provides students with a quality education in more than 45 degree and certificate programs. Herkimer County Community College offers more than 40 degree programs, as well as one-year certificate programs and 18 full-degree programs online through its Internet Academy. Morrisville State College has more than 70 associate and bachelor degree programs using cutting-edge technology in academic labs.
